Is iCloud Private Relay a VPN?
No. It is a two-hop proxy for Safari (and some DNS/unencrypted HTTP) on eligible Apple devices with iCloud+. It is not a system-wide tunnel for every app.
Can Private Relay replace NordVPN?
Only if your job is “hide Safari/DNS from my network on Apple gear.” It will not cover a Windows laptop, a torrent client, or most non-Safari apps. It also does not add Level 2 (2FA).
What about Cloudflare WARP or carrier “free VPN”?
Same pattern: a narrower privacy product can be enough for a narrow job. Test leaks. Do not assume OS toggles cover banking apps on hotel Wi‑Fi.
