Trip-day checklist for hotel / airport Wi‑Fi. Level 1 = network. Level 2 = logins. A VPN helps Level 1 only.
Level 1 — Network (before banking)
- Connect VPN (or router VPN) before opening bank / email
- Run Trust Score travel mode — re-check after VPN connects
- Avoid unknown “free Wi‑Fi” portals that ask for extra passwords
- If banking still blocks you, consider dedicated IP (whitelist / reputation)
Level 2 — Identity (accounts)
- Primary email has authenticator or passkey (not SMS-only if possible)
- Banking app uses biometric / app 2FA you already set up at home
- No password reuse between email and travel bookings
- After the trip: review email sessions / devices
If something feels wrong
- Disconnect Wi‑Fi · use phone data · change critical passwords from a trusted network
- Do not enter banking credentials into pop-up pages from the captive portal
