Decentralized VPN vs a normal VPN
DVPNs scatter traffic across volunteer or token-incentivized nodes so there is “no single company.” That sounds like more privacy. In practice you still pick an exit — and that exit can see your destination traffic unless extra mixnet hops are doing real work.

Either model can encrypt a hop. Measure leaks. A blockchain overlay patent or token does not prove WebRTC is off.

Neither model replaces passkeys. Paying in crypto for bandwidth does not 2FA your Gmail.

What is a decentralized VPN (DVPN)?
A DVPN routes traffic through many participant-hosted nodes, often with tokens or bandwidth markets, instead of one company’s server fleet. Projects include Orchid, Mysterium, Sentinel, and mixnet-adjacent designs such as Nym.
Is a DVPN more private than NordVPN?
Not automatically. You still trust whoever runs the exit node you used. Performance, malware on exits, and UX are the usual failure modes. A reputable centralized VPN is easier to test for leaks.
Should I earn crypto by sharing bandwidth?
That is a different job (running a node). It can put you in other people’s traffic path. Do not mix “I want café privacy” with “I want to sell bandwidth” without understanding exit-node risk.
